firefox 2 to protect against phishing scams

QUOTE

An upcoming version of Firefox will include protection against phishing scams, using technology that might come from Google.

The phishing shield is a key new security feature planned for Firefox 2, slated for release in the third quarter of this year, Mozilla's Mike Shaver said in an interview Tuesday.

"Everybody understands that phishing is a significant problem on the Web," said Shaver, a technology strategist at the company, which oversees Firefox development. "We are putting antiphishing into Firefox, and Google is working with us on that."

doesn't IE already have phishing protection?

How can Firefox have phishing protection? I thought the greater amount of phishing occurs through email...

IE 7 B2 does, IE 6 doesn't.

It's a combo of emails and web pages. You may get a legit-lookin email that will send you to a legit-looking site that steals your info. Thunderbird already has phishing detection, so the combination of both should be pretty good.

Any idea on how this will work? Theres the anti phising measures that work on hidden or deceptive urls (like the old idn exploit and proxying, number substitution etc) and then theres the blacklist way. I believe Thunderbird already has some functionality to detect deceptive URLs.

For me theres a very simple solution, never click a link in an email, thats the best anti-phishing method ever. smile.gif

I always do ... I like seeing the quality of the phishing site ... then entering bogus information, only if I'm bored though ph34r.gif
