Mozilla Firefox 1.0.4 has been released. This latest update fixes three security vulnerabilities listed on the known vulnerabilities page (MFSA 2005-42, MFSA 2005-43 and MFSA 2005-44) and resolves a DHTML regression introduced in Firefox 1.0.3.

Rafael Ebron sent us what looks like the Mozilla Foundation's official word on 1.0.4: "Firefox 1.0.4 is a security update to resolve the recently reported vulnerabilities. To our knowledge, no users have been adversely affected by these vulnerabilities.

Another release for security concerns... a patch really.

It's still the plan that no big changes will happen until Firefox 1.1

Is it safe to install over or upgrade in this version or do we still need to uninstall and re-install? And anyone got any extension problems with it? Oh and does it fix the auto-update checking problem?

Mozilla (and many users) claim it's safe to install over this version, but I haven't done it. I always do an uninstal and re-install since a bad experience I had in going from 0.8 to 0.9. How's that for a straight answer wink.gif

Any extension that's worked since version 1.0 should still work here. 1.0.4 basically is just some security patches.

I'm not sure which auto-update checking problem you're talking about? I don't seem to be having any issues with it...

The auto update thing is where the browser hangs for a while when you first load it up. If you then try and click on anything in the browser it will crash but if you just leave it it coemes to life after a while. I can't remember whether it was a problem with an extension or with the browsers itself but it only came about after the last upgrade and I heard it was getting fixed soon *shrugs*.

I think I'll go the safe option and un and then re-install smile.gif

EDIT:
Updated, no problems, still hangs though it seems for a shrter amount of time, i think its something to do with the extensions (specifically the proxy switcher) doing an auto-update-check. I'll investigate.

EDIT Numero DOS:
I just turned on the "notify my of updates" option in the extension and all is well in the world of FireFox again smile.gif
