First of all you need to open both of your images that you wish to blend, in this example i'm going to use a picture of my cat Duke and a nice sunset a friend of mine took. (Cafe Del Mar)

Select one of the images and hold down the SHIFT button while you drag the first image on top of the second image you will be blending. You must grab the image from the layers box, once you have hold of it the selection will look black like the example, then you just move it over to the second image and place.

Now you will see that one image is on top of the other, do the nesecary resizing if your images are different sizes or too large.

Go onto the layers menu once you have positioned your images where you want them and then go down to Add Layer Mask > Hide All. Remember it must be hide all and not reveal all.

Once you have applied your layer mask you will notice that in your layers box you will see something that looks similar to the example (left). Don't worry if it looks slightly different, it will all look the same in the end.

Now drag the gradient across your image and then it should reveal the image below but with a nice blended effect. The white will reveal your image while the black will cover it.
