Keep the patches 'a comin'!

Asa Dotzler has announced that Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.1 has been cancelled and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 and Thunderbird 1.0.2 releases are on the way. Asa explains, "We shipped the security update for Firefox 1.0 three weeks ago with the intention of shipping the Thunderbird and Mozilla Suite upates soon after. Well, just as we were getting ready to push out Thunderbird 1.0.1 and Mozilla 1.7.6 releases we came across a couple more issues that needed fixing in all three of our products."

After sitting still on 1.0 for a while, .0.1 and .0.2 are being released relatively close to each other. The live updater for 1.0 to 1.0.1 seemed to work pretty well, so I think this should be a seamless upgrade when released.

I'm a couple of days late, but both Thunderbird and Firefox 1.0.2 are available.

Firefox - Not too much has changed between 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, but if you haven't yet installed 1.0.1, you'll probably want to go ahead and get 1.0.2.

A minor security update for Mozilla Firefox has been released. Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 fixes a buffer overflow flaw in the GIF image processing code. More information can be found in the Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 Release Notes and we expect that the Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories page will be updated soon. Download Firefox 1.0.2 from the Firefox product page.

Thunderbird- As noted in this thread, there wasn't a 1.0.1, so I'd recommend bumping your 1.0 (or earlier) TB up to 1.0.2 to keep yourself from the security holes.

Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2 has been released. Consisting of security and stability fixes, this version is an essential upgrade for all Thunderbird 1.0 users. The Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2 Release Notes have more information and builds can be obtained from either the Thunderbird product page or the Thunderbird 1.0.2 directory on ftp.mozilla.org. Full details of the security fixes will be posted on the Mozilla Foundation Security Advisories page soon. As previously reported, there was no Thunderbird 1.0.1.

I've upgraded both apps and haven't had any problems.

I forgot - the dev guys say it's safe to install the new version on top of your current.... if you don't mind having multiple instances of Firefox and/or TBird in your add/remove programs list. To me, uninstalling first is the best way.

And I would like to reiterate -- THIS IS PERFECTLY SAFE TO DO! I've done it multiple, multiple, multiple times with NO problems. smile.gif
