This release is a security and stability update for 1.0.1 and does not contain significant new features. If you'd like to help us with testing, please look into the areas Jesse mentioned in the previous post, IDN, downloading, the lock icon in the status bar and address bar, autocomplete, XPI installation, the ways web applications can open and manipulate windows. I'm also interested in feedback on extensions, profiles, or any other areas that might be impcated by an upgrade.

Supposed to be ready sometime on 2/24. Asa's blog entry goes on to say that they aren't fully confident in the update installer so an upgrade won't be available, just a full download.
Waleed
something to do with the IDN domain thing?
bassrek
Yup, that's one of the fixes Waleed.

Firefox 1.0.1 is now available:

As always, please be sure to uninstall your current Firefox version before installing a new one. All your profile information will be kept and your extensions and themes will be kept, too, as long as they are compatible.

Heh, nah, it works well. I've done it several times now. Of course, their long-term strategy is to have an updater install, but it's not quite ready for prime time.

I'm ticked because I can't download the installer. I'm not convinced this stupid firewall here is properly working yet.

I think I'll wait for the updater install...
Waleed
Aye. I'm not prepared to uninstall FF on the hope of getting it back wehn 1.0.1 is installed. updater is fine for me..
bassrek
There's really nothing to worry about. I've been uninstalling/reinstalling ever since they started offering Windows installer versions of the betas with no issues whatsoever. The only way you'd damage your profile is if you went through the file system and delete/edit your profile files yourself. If you uninstall Firefox properly (that is, through add/remove programs), then your profile will not get touched. The program itself is stored in a completely different directory than your profile information.
Waleed
Being the twit that I am, it's better if I just leave it to a updater..

If this stupid work firewall was working I'd test. I already did the full install at home smile.gif
