Does anyone know of any free and effective pop-up blockers?

I can't think of any and I can't seem to find any good referenced or indorsed blockers so I wondered if anyone else knew of any.

Cheers smile.gif

BTW: not for me, for the misses ... rolleyes.gif women!

Yeah I thought that aswell Mike, but after putting it on my girlfriends PC she was still bombarded by pop-ups ... I remember when I had IE and the toolbar it blocked 95% of pop-ups ... it didn't block any this time however so I needed to look for another solution.

I installed Spybot on her PC and did a full scan to remove 104 cases of spyware/adware/tracking cookies etc rolleyes.gif and removed a pile of spyware programs which had installed themselves on her PC.

Her anti-virus needed updating and a full scan done (luckily she had no viruses) and it needed a good spring cleaning ... so last thing on the list a pop-up blocker ...

Cheers guys, I will test these out and let you know the results wink.gif

Pop-ups, you say... Hmmm, pop-ups.

What, again, are those things? I vaguely remember having had stuff like that too, back in time, ages ago. Didn't they have something to do with some obsolete browser or stuff? whistle.gif

Nah, I can't really remember...

laugh.gif Your right there ... but being a family computer with small children apparantly Firefox would be too complicated for them rolleyes.gif so she said she wants to stick with IE ... so I slapped her biggrin.gif

Will be testing both programs on the weekend, can't test them sooner because I won't be able to get on her computer till then.

After avoiding it for years, my wife finally decided she wanted to start using the 'ol PC at home to surf the web. So when I showed her which icon to click on to surf the web, naturally it was the the one with the nice orange circular fox. So as far as she is concerned, there is no other browser and IE is shorthand for "for example" biggrin.gif

At work, I installed FF on every single 'pjuter (5 with Win98 or higher), and told the users I didn't want to clean their computer everyday. Result? After a while multiple question like "Why can't I do this at home?" (All-in-one gestures, Nuke Anything, tabbed browsing) or "How come I don't *ever* have sites putting cookies on pjuter at home?" (cookie control - hard to explain). I don't care what they use at home, but on "my" pjuters...

It takes a while, but they do understand (in the end) thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
