Ben Goodger has previewed a new design for the Mozilla Firefox Options/Preferences window. Amongst other changes, the new look moves the category panel icons from the left side of the window to the top. To fit in better with Mac OS X and GNOME, the window will be non-modal (meaning it won't stop you from interacting with what's behind the window when it's open) and changes will apply instantly on these platforms (it will remain a modal dialogue on Windows but it will probably be possible to change this by modifying a hidden preference). The current Options/Preferences window has some of the oldest front-end code in Firefox and this new design will use more modern XBL code.
