Asa Dotzler writes: "Today we have our first Firefox 1.0 candidate builds available for testing. You can get these test builds from FTP. If you've already downloaded 1.0 PR (the "feature complete" preview) and you're not really interested in testing and bug reporting, then you should probably stick with 1.0 PR for a couple more weeks and upgrade when we release the official Firefox 1.0.

be careful: many of your extensions and themes will not work in RC1.
You can make most of the extensions work by going into about:config and setting the app.extension.version to 1.0 or 0.9 if 1.0 doesn't fix them.

you can also edit the setting in the extension.rdf file.

by the way, i've talked to Asa before, he's a pretty nice guy. He said over 300 bugs have been fixed in this release canidate.

The Mozilla Foundation today has released the second release candidate for Firefox 1.0 which can be found on their FTP server. The Firefox developers please ask that you look at the following areas: site authentication (especially over SSL), extension installation via update.mozilla.org and other sites, Mac OS X builds, and software update — "we're making another attempt at this. We think we've got the bugs from RC1, so please test by following these instructions." Please report any problems you find in Bugzilla. Along with English builds, a number of localizations are also available for testing. More information on what looks to be the final RC before 1.0 can be found on Ben's weblog.

I haven't heard anything about them pushing the targeted Nov. 9 date for the final 1.0 release, although with a RC3 planned, it looks like it'll have to be pushed back.
