Most software when bought in a shop comes in a nice big box with fancy graphics on it. The software websites also show these boxes on their websites, infact many websites that don't have real product boxes still design them in photoshop to put on their site. Why? because the look professional, and pretty damned cool smile.gif

So, here's a very easy tutorial for photoshop to make your own product box.

> Open a new document, any size but for our first attempt use something big, lets say 600x600

> use the select tool on a new layer user posted image and draw out a rectangle the same shape as the front of a product box (taller than it is wide). Use the fill tool (the bucket on the left) and fill it with the color of your choice.

> now, on a new layer user posted image , select another rectangle but this has to ber very narrow for the side of the box.
This is wat you should have now:

> next design your box cover and side with text and / or images, once you have them done rasterize all your text layers ( >layer >rasterize >type). And then merge (>layer >merge down) all the images and text onto two layers, one layer for the front design and one layer for the side cover.

Here's what i came up with (a program was on tv about the maldives, hence the design laugh.gif)

>next we need to distort the two sections to create a perspective, move the sides next to each other so that they are inline, choose the side layer and then go to >edit >transform >distort , now pull the top-left and bottom-left corners in, like in the picture below.

user posted image

>repeat the process for the front of the box, again use your own judgement on how much perspective you want.

you should now have this:

>a few more touches and we're done. Select the layer with the narrow side and go to >image > adjustments > variations. You'll get a window with previews of what the image would look like a little bluer, or greener etc, also on the right is lighter and darker, click darker once:

>Last thing to do is the shadow, create layer below the image. Select a brush with a wide spray, set sice to 45 and opacity and flow to %50. spray a spot under the bottom middle corner (make the middle of the brush the corner) now go to the right corner, position it the same and the hold down shift and spray a spot again, it should draw a straight line from the first spot. Now go to the left corner, spray a spot with the corner in the middle of the spray and then go to the center corner and again hold down shift and spray.

this should be your final product box smile.gif

"Weborum gets your chicks wink.gif"

Really nice Leo specool.gif

... on your second one, the reflection is going the wrong way, it should be coming outwards (towards you) and not straight down tongue.gif

smile.gif

yeah it was tricky getting the reflection right as it is because the base isn't straight, i did try some perspective but i'll have to play a bit further to get it right smile.gif

I've been looking at reflections and they don't seem to get perspective, they directly reflect the image you see, if that image has perspective it reflects but doesn't show any like a shadow would.

Also, where the box goes into the background, the bottom edge of the box curves up, the shadow on the box goes all the way up whereas in real life the box would face out (not easy to describe lol)

Post the *.psd and I will see if I can show you what I mean laugh.gif
